Myrtle Avenue (J, M, Z)
On the border of Bushwick and Bed-Stuy, this street-arty stop has a primarily grungy multicultural immigrant vibe with hip establishments for the gentrifiers, public-housing occupants and immigrants alike.
Come here for coffee, dinner, nightlife, or a shave.
Spot the train!
Cafes
The Concrete Jungle: lots of plants that are also for sale
High & Dry: advertises itself as “late night,” “wifi” and “friendship!!!”
Dinner
SKYTOWN: bar food and fancy cocktails
Buntopia: healthy Asian buns
La Lupe: Bushwick-style Mexican
Native Restaurant & Lounge: West African
Concrete: Sicilian, recommended by a local, Sage, who lives off this stop.
Nightlife & Events
Cafe Erzulie: Music events in a club space, where you can pre-order bottle service
Brooklyn Art Cave: Often by appointment only, but they host events, too.
JADE: Perfect for hipsters and karaoke
Paragon: DJ sets!
A lot of the bars here are 4pm-4am.
Barbershop & Salon
Enrique’s Barbershop: It is GILDED!
I’d come to Enrique’s for the mirrors alone.
Bonus: Books & Records
There’s a cute little alley off Broadway street that leads into a book store, Book Row, on one side, and a records store, Rebel Rouser, on the other. It’s cute, and more towards the less-gentrified part of Broadway.
There’s a small alley between Book Row and Rebel Rouser. Last I checked, there’s a tattoo shop nestled in there.
