138th Street - Grand Concourse (4, 5)

This stop gives you access to a very cool part of Mott Haven, with some of the city’s best street art. It’s an up-and-coming area.

When you get out of the station, I ask that you trust the process. You’ll be surrounded by a car-heavy area with very large apartment buildings and it’s going to feel a bit bland. The closest interesting food/bar stop, Rosa’s at Park, is literally within a squat gray hotel. But, don’t judge a spot by its entrance. That goes for Rosa’s specifically, and Mott Haven in general.

Right outside the station, where you get more graffiti than street art.

Essentially, my recommendations for this station are the same as for sister stop 3av-138th Street 6: you’ll want to check out The Bronx Native, The Lit. Bar, Up NYC, and Famous Nobodys. But, I’ll leave some pics here that are unique to this station.

Around the station exit, where it’s still not cool yet.

A little taste of the area starting to get cool, as you approach the southern tip of Mott Haven.

Highway underpass energy, Mott Haven’s version.
