14th Street / Sixth Avenue (F, M, 1, 2, 3, L)
DO NOT BE FOOLED by how lackluster it feels right outside the station. Go. South. West.
This stop will give you access to some of New York’s best food and coolest high-end vibes. But you might not know it right as you exit the station.
Here’s the thing: 14th street itself is a bit of a big-street bore, but if you head southwest from the station, you start to get into the West Village/Greenwich Village territory, which is home to some of the city’s greatest charm. Head north or east from the station, and you get more of an early midtown vibe… so, try to not do that.
For a fancy date-night meal: Don Angie, Semma, Lume. Note: you’ll need to book in advance!
For high tea: Tea & Sympathy
For Australian goodies: Carry On (the store attached to Tea & Sympathy)
For a cocktail: San Sabino (also good for a date-night seafood meal)
For a glass of wine: Sogno Toscano
For a speakeasy: Do Not Disturb
But actually: Anything you find along Greenwich St, West 4th St, 8th Ave, West 11th St, Perry St, etc. will likely become a treasured favorite.
In general: throw on a nice outfit and let yourself get lost in the confusing, grid-defying streets out here. You might peek a celebrity, or, hey, you might even *be* a celebrity if you’re hanging out around here.
