169th Street (F)

Primarily Bengali, a little Latinx. Easy access to Bengali food, if you can overcome the Google Reviews.

This is a busy area with South Asian street vendors and compact commerce, all catered to the local immigrant community. So, there are a lot of travel agencies, international banking services, Bengali-speaking tax consultants, that kind of thing. Few are listed properly on Google Maps, if at all.

Even the IHOP off this stop knows its audience out here, with advertisements for its Halal meat. (Who knew? Well, I guess, the people off this stop.)

If you’re looking to cook a South Asian meal, this stop has Kawran Supermarket on 168th, which will meet all of your hing and coriander needs. Move over, Whole Foods. This is the real deal.

If you’re less of a chef and more of an eater, try any of the casual restaurants that will greet you right off the stop, like Sagar, Star Kebab, Halal Gyro … there are so, so many options. None of them will have great Google reviews. And that’s how you know they’re legit. So go with whatever calls to you!
