18th Avenue (D)

Welcome to Bensonhurt’s Chinatown! Compared to other NYC Chinatowns, this one is a bit more functional and sparse than, say, fun and crammed. But it’s got its gems.

Right at the station exit is Sweet Star Bakery. It might look a little run down but save your judgment until you try a pineapple bun!

Nearby are two clutch Asian grocery stores: Star Market and the 18th Ave Supermarket.

To balance out all the Asian goodness, try Project472’s favorite spot for home-cooked Georgian: 18th Ave Cafe G. Its decorated with the owner’s family photos and Georgian treasures, and chances are high you’ll get a pastry slice on the house if you mention that Project472 told you say to hi to Maya.

I spy the subway station

The fabulously lush interior of 18th Ave Cafe G. Ask if the owner Maya is around!
