West Farms Square - East Tremont Avenue (2, 5)

This stop has initially shabby vibes right at the subway exit, but walk five minutes and you’re in a hidden river access point, or ten minutes and you’re at The Bronx Zoo.

Read on for how to get here in 5 minutes from the station exit.

Walk along E Tremont Ave to the Bronx River Art Center, which marks the entrance to the Bronx River Greenway. Start walking the path north, and then bear right to the entrance of West Farms Rapids Park. Keep walking along the path in the park, and you’ll hit a little alcove to your right, which brings you right to the river bank. The train tracks are right ahead, but its an otherwise peaceful spot. You can’t swim in the river, but there’s no rule that you can’t sit on the rocks on the bank for lunch or contemplation.

Keep going north through the park until you hit East 180th Street, where River Park is. Home of the Latino Barbecue scene, River Park also has some short but pleasant waterfalls you can observe. Go just a little bit more north on Boston Road, and you’ll get to the Asia Gate of The Bronx Zoo!

River Park

As discussed, the area around the station is a bit shabby. But to know that the river is just mere feet away!

The Bronx Zoo entrance off Boston Road, about 10 minutes north of the station. I recommend walking through West Farms Rapids Park to get here, though.
