23rd Street (1)

I have two very niche recommendations for this stop.

The Taxi Clubhouse

This is New York City’s most exclusive club: it’s for taxi drivers only.

Henry! A lovely city cab driver who invited me into The Clubhouse.

The Clubhouse is free (for taxi drivers) and features massage chairs, a large TV, coffee, a prayer room, a gym, a microwave, and really wonderful staff who support drivers in navigating resources.

I snuck a peek because a very friendly taxi driver, Henry, invited me as his guest. You, too, might also try your luck for an invitation at the door, particularly if you come bearing treats to share with the drivers. Hey, Crumbl is right across the corner.

Find me a more international workforce than city cab drivers - I’ll wait. How many nationalities can you identify from the flag banner in the Clubhouse?

A Wifi-Equipped Cafe That Smells Like a Hair Salon

Look, I know at least one of you readers has a thing for hair-salon-smell. If that’s you, The Coffee Bar at The Life of Riley is your new spot. Bring a book or laptop to disguise why you’re really there.

To See More of Chelsea

For an arty Chelsea vibe, I’d head to the west and use the guide for 23rd St (C, E).
